Aukot is pushing for changes seeking to reduce the number of elective seats to reduce the national wage bill, with the Woman Representative seat being among the targets.

But the team which is largely made up of Woman Representatives on Thursday poked holes into the push, declaring their opposition to it, and predicting its failure.

Speaking in Wajir where they were hosted by area woman MP Fatuma Gedi, the group said the position has brought development in the areas and shouldn't be scrapped.

"Calls have been made to scrap the Woman Rep position by some politicians, but that will not succeed. We are here to remind those pushing the agenda to scrap the positions that they will not succeed,” said Gedi.

Her calls were backed by former Nominated Senator Beatrice Elachi who called for an elevation of number of women in Parliament.

The team pledged to continue spearheading the push for national cohesion founded by President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga after their 2018 ceasefire.

Aukot's push also seeks to reduce number of MPs and channel more funds to the counties from the national government.
