Former Lagdera MP Farah Maalim has supported the appointment of former Vice President (VP) Moody Awori as a member of the Sports, Art and Social Development Board.
Maalim argues that Kenyans should stop criticizing president Kenyatta for appointing the former VP to the Sports Board on account of his advanced age.
According to Maalim, age is just a number and should not be used to discriminate against hardworking and outstanding individuals.
''In the bill of rights in our constitution, one cannot be discriminated on account of advanced age. You can only be denied an opportunity to serve in a certain position because you are too young. You can’t run for the presidency if below 35. Moody Awori is healthy and sharp,’’ Maalim said in a post on his Twitter account.
The appointment of Awori, now 91, to the Sports Board has created sharp debate with majority Kenyans criticising the appointment.
Majority of Kenyans have accused President Kenyatta of allegedly 'recycling' old politicians instead of giving jobs to young people.
President Kenyatta has, however, defended Moody Awori’s appointment.
The president says that young people have let his government down since they engage in corruption once given such opportunities.
