The wife of and daughter of former Starehe MP aspirant Boniface Mwangi were among the hundreds of guests who graced an event attended by former US President Barack Obama in Kogelo, Siaya County.
Mwangi's wife Hellen Njeri Mwangi and his daughter on Monday joined other guests in Kogelo as Obama officially launched Sauti Kuu, an NGO run by the former Illinois Senator's sister, Dr Auma Obama.
Mwangi in a tweet from Helsinki, Finland expressed delight over the invitation saying the invite could be an appreciation of his civil rights work over the years.
"My family is in Alego for Obama's event and here l am in Helsinki, Finland Senate square covering the Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin Summit," the outspoken activist tweeted.
Mwangi is known for his activity in the civil rights world and has been at the forefront of criticizing the Kenya police over what he terms the force's brutality on Kenyans especially during elections.
He has been clobbered by the police several times and the last of such incidents happened at Uhuru Park when he was whipped while protesting continued police killings after the August 8 general election which President Uhuru Kenyatta won although the victory was annulled by the Supreme Court.
