Kenyans on social media have taken to Twitter to express their opinions after the High Court ruled that abortion remains illegal in Kenya.
The ruling which was arrived at by a five-judge bench has largely received positive reactions from the Kenyans on Twitter. A good number of the netizens believed that the decision was not only prudent but also based on moral foundations.
A section of the netizens also addressed the controversy surrounding the guidelines of abortion, where doctors are allowed to carry out a safe abortion in case the life of the mother is endangered.
Whereas some believed this allowance was appropriate, others argued that this was a loophole that could be used to practice abortion.
Most of the netizens however, seemed to agree on the fact that there should be rules and guidelines governing circumstances where doctors have to practice abortion to save the mother. They argued that this would prevent cases of unnecessary and intentional abortion.
According to a section of Kenyans, the ruling upheld the rights of young girls and women which would otherwise have been infringed.
Some of the netizens went ahead to appreciate the judges for the ruling arguing it will prevent the deaths of women due to abortions.
