Deputy President William Ruto on Thursday disowned early 2022 campaigns saying he has not assigned anyone to campaign for him.
A section of Gusii leaders, speaking in Kisii town on Friday, said DP Ruto is under pressure from his boss President Uhuru Kenyatta to stop early campaigns.
“It is a blow to ‘Tanga Tanga’ movement comprising of some Gusii MPs since DP Ruto disowned them. It is evident that DP Ruto’s 2022 bid is crippled,” said Samuel Omwando, a politician allied to opposition.
Omwando said it is a blow to Gusii politicians who have been tiresomely campaigning for DP Ruto.
“Desperate individuals who have been campaigning for DP Ruto will have nothing to smile about. Let them be in the political cold,” he added. Ex-Bonchari MP John Opore lauded DP Ruto for distancing himself from 2022 campaigns.
“Ruto should first help Mr Kenyatta implement the Big 4 Agenda before engaging in 2022 politics,” he stated.
ANC politician Thomas Nyangaresi urged Gusii MPs who had joined DP Ruto's camp to decamp before it is too late.
"Ruto is slowly sensing defeat. I'm advising those who have joined his campaign team to decamp immediately" said Nyangaresi.
