Mt Kenya politicians are holding discussions on who to pick as a presidential candidate in the forthcoming 2022 general election, Gatundu South Moses Kurua has revealed.
Speaking during a church service at St Thomas Anglican Cathedral in Kirinyaga County on Sunday, Mt Kenya will not fail to field a presidential candidate in 2022.
“We are deliberating on how to have our own to become the next president,” the vocal Jubilee Party legislator said as quoted by Daily Nation.
Kuria further said that they are deliberating on how to form their own political party that they will use as a vehicle to State House.
“We are not going to let the presidency go, we cannot give out the loaves of bread and the bakery at the same time,” the MP added.
He said that Mt Kenya is determined to pick a leader who will succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta when he retires.
The lawmaker revealed that Mt Kenya politicians who are divided under the Tanga Tanga and Kieleweke camps are not coming together to chart the region’s political way forward.
Kuria is among politicians who have declared an interest to contest the 2022 presidential election.
The Gatundu South MP’s statement is a blow to Deputy President William Ruto who is banking on Mt Kenya region to support his 2022 presidential bid.
A section of Mt Kenya politicians under Tanga Tanga movement are backing DP Ruto’s presidency in 2022 while those in Kieleweke are against Ruto’s ambition.
