Police officers in Migori County are investigating an incident where a man is said to have committed suicide after killing his wife on Sunday night.
The man identified as Jack Marire reportedly hacked the wife to death using a panga (machete) in Central Kadem ward following a disagreement over Sh 240, 000.
Marire is said to have done the inhumane act to the wife while she was sleeping in their home after she refused to hand over the money.
He was later found dangling from a rope inside a nearby goldmine, in what is suspected to be a suicide.
Confirming the incident, area Chief Hezron Odek said that the man was previously heard by relatives demanding the money from his wife.
However, he said, the woman seemed reluctant to give it to him which led to the murder.
He added that the police have since launched a probe into the incident and are also trying to solve the puzzle surrounding the money and what it was meant for, as reported by the Citizen Digital.
The two are said to have been running a shop at Nyakwere Trading Center in Nyatike.
Their bodies were moved to the Migori Level Four Hospital morgue pending postmortem.
