Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot has drafted a proposal to have Nairobi delisted from the 47 counties.
The Jubilee senator in his proposal argues that the county is a cosmopolitan area with more advantages than other counties.
The senator claims that Nairobi is advantageous and does not deserve to have its own budgetary allocation from the national government.
In the proposal, the senator further wants Nairobi to be dissolved and managed by the national government.
“Nairobi County shall be known as Nairobi and shall be under the control of the national government,” the proposal reads in part.
The proposal has been tabled before the Senate Justice and Legal Affairs committee.
Nairobi senator Johnson Sakaja has however opposed the proposal, saying it seeks to deprive Nairobians the benefits of devolution.
Sakaja further says that a referendum has to be held in order to effect such changes which he says could alter structures of governance.
