Five police officers have been arrested over claims of stealing money from an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) in Machakos.
The five identified as Corporal Richard Wambua, Constable Boniface Wambua, APC Cyprian Odundo, Prison Warder Julius Mwalili and Prison Warder Musyoki Mutua are reported to have been nabbed with Sh268,000 stolen from a Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) ATM.
According to a police report, the suspects were arrested after a security guard raised alarm.
"Upon conducting a search, Sh100,000 was recovered from the motor vehicle dashboard and the rest Sh168,000 was recovered from Julius Mwalili who had hidden it inside his socks which he failed to account for. Also recovered include one prison beret," read the report.
Security officials have recently been in the spotlight over their involvement in crimes such as theft of money.
On Sunday last week, three police officers were nabbed over allegations of stealing Sh6 million from an occupant in a hotel in Eastleigh.
However, two suspects among them the gang informer were able to escape and the police have since launched a manhunt for them.
Last month, two police officers were arrested in connection with the Sh72 million heist in Nairobi west.
One of the officers identified as Chris Ayienda Mochogu was nabbed in possession of Sh4 million in Kisii before he led police to his accomplice in Kendu Bay.
