Kibra parliamentary aspirant Eliud Owalo has said he will not be pushing one of the initiatives former area MP the late Ken Okoth was pursuing, in the instance he is elected.
Before his death in July, Okoth was pushing for the legalisation of bhang, arguing that it has medicinal values, especially against cancer.
However, Owalo says he cannot push the agenda and neither does he support it, adding that he is actually on the other side, and believes that the ban must stay.
Speaking on Thursday, Owalo said he stands for the view that the youth, who are the majority bhang users, should be completely prevented from using the illegal drug.
"I can't push that, we cannot legalize bhang. What we want is to create job opportunities for the youth (Hiyo siwezi sukuma, hatuwezi legalize bangi, ile tunataka ni kucreate job opportunities kwa vijana)," he said on KBC Radio.
He argued that pushing such an agenda would actually amount to doublespeak on his side, given that he is to thank for the formation of the nation's anti-drug body.
"I understand matters about drug and substance abuse because I was involved in the formation of the NACADA. (Mimi naelewa mambo ya drug and substance abuse maana nilihusika kuunda NACADA)," he added.
