More than 16 people failed to show up at an examination centre for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) on Wednesday in Kisii County.
The 16 are suspected to be among other 11 people who were arrested in an attempted KCSE cheating on Tuesday.
They were to sit for their exams at the Inter-City Academy, Milimani Ramasha Centre, in Bomachoge Chache Constituency in Kisii County.
However, they didn't turn up for their third day of examinations at the centre. They are suspected to be fake candidates who had done the exams for the first two days without being noticed.
The centre had registered 103 KCSE candidates from different schools around Kisii County.
Confirming this incidence, Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha said that the centre could be closed due to this examination cheating scandal.
“We are still deliberating on the way forward about this centre but if need be, it will be closed,” said the CS.
The CS noted that this is an advanced cheating method. He pointed out that they had manipulated the KNEC schedule, which was supposed to show student pictures.
Having managed to do so, the real students stepped aside paving way for the fake students to come with their pictures to sit for exams.
“They came with their own pictures together with their own people. It is by the grace of God we were able to note something was not right,'' said Magoha.
