The girl reportedly went missing five days ago before her lifeless body was recovered near River Bujumba on Saturday, with the police believing that she was defiled by three men.

According to the police, there is a high probability that the suspects drugged the girl before embarking on the heinous act.

Addressing the media at the police station, the girl's mother said her daughter was abducted on her way to school.

"She left for school but did not reach there, they hijacked here and proceeded to rape her. (Alitoka akienda shule lakini hakufika shuleni, walimuhijack wakaenda wakamnajisi)," she said as quoted by Citizen Digital.

The girl's mother alleged that a wife to one of the suspects currently being held at the Bumala Police Station, tried to bribe her Sh10,000 to have the case settled out of court.

Rural Education and Economic Enhancement Program (REEP) Director Mary Makokha said similar cases have been on the rise in the region lately.

“Right now cases that have been reported here are 13, 624… we don’t hear our leaders talking about it and it’s because people fear,” she said.
