Ngaremara Senior Chief Stephen Mwangola was involved in the accident while riding his motorbike at Kambi Garba area, along the Isiolo-Moyale highway on Friday.

The accident, according to Isiolo Sub County Police Commander Moses Owiti, happened while the lorry driver was attempting to overtake the chief.

He said that the driver, also headed towards Isiolo, hit the administrator and ran over him, killing him instantly.

"Both were heading towards Isiolo town when the accident happened. While trying to overtake, the driver of the lorry hit the chief and ran over him, killing him on the spot," said the police boss.

He added that the driver is helping the police with ongoing investigations, and is being detained at a police station in the area.

The body of the chief was taken to the Isiolo Referral Hospital Mortuary, while the lorry and the motorbike were towed to the Isiolo Police Station as investigations kick off.

The police boss called upon road users to be careful in the roads to avoid more of such in the future.

“I am appealing to motorists to observe traffic rules," he added.
