Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo junior has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to do more about the deplorable condition of ferries in the coast.
Speaking during the burial of Mariam and her daughter in Ngaamba, Makueni Mutula said that dissolving the Kenya Ferry services board was not enough.
"It's obvious KFS is to blame for the accident and much more action is needed, firing them isn't enough Mr.President," said Mutula.
The senator rubbished the Sh200,000 cheques offered to the family by KFS and offered to give his legal services in case the victims family decides to move to court.
His sentiments were echoed by Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Makueni member of parliament Daniel Maanzo.
Kalonzo blamed KFS for being reluctant teaming the tragedy as criminal negligence.
He said that there was need to for the construction of a bridge that will join Southern Coast and see the phasing out of ferries.
He said that Kenyans want to see those responsible arraigned in court and charged.
Maanzo on the other hand lamented about deplorable conditions of the ferries intimating that incidents like that of Mariam and her daughter will not end unless the situation is solved.
"Our ferries are old and Kenyans use them this we call upon the government to make sure that they work on them so as to save lives," he said.
Other leaders present at the burial included Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana, His deputy Adelina Mwau Makueni women representative Rose Museo among others.
