Kisii County Governor James Ongwae has raised concern over the increased number of alcohol selling joints in Kisii.
Ongwae said his government won't continue licensing liquor sellers without due procedures being adhered to.
"My government aims to actualize its mandate of controlling the number of liquor outlets, operational hours, curb illicit drinks, substandard and counterfeit beverages and advocacy against alcohol abuse. Officers responsible for issuing liquor licenses should not be compromised by cartels," he noted.
The opposition allied governor regretted that several families have been breaking because of excessive alcohol consumption among married couples.
He reiterated the government's commitment to engage residents and help jobless people in deep villages across the county to start small businesses to boost their lives.
"Plans are underway to ensure residents irrespective of how they voted during the last year's polls are helped to start small businesses so that we don't have many people idling in villages leading them to venture into alcohol making, selling and consumption," noted Ongwae.
Ongwae urged police officers not to release illicit brew dealers from custody without arraigning them in court.
