Both dams are located in Elgeyo Marakwet County, the home turf of Deputy President William Ruto.

Kimwarer dam is expected to be built along Kimwerer river. It is intended to improve food security and water supply. Besides, the project is said to generate over 20MW of electricity and make more water available for irrigation and livestock.

The Arror dam is also intended to improve food security and water security plus generating over 60MW of electricity.

These are mega projects that the government intends to spend billions of money so as to complete them.

Even as graft allegations continue to arise over the projects, it is a surprise that the majority of the Uasin Gishu residents know little about the dams.

“I actually don’t know where the dams are, I just hear in the media that they are in the Rift Valley and that money has been lost through them,” said Elvis Rono, a resident of Maili Nne in Eldoret.

Another businessman in Roadblock estate on the outskirts of Eldoret town John Tabalia admitted that he actually has no information about the dams and the scandals surrounding the projects.

“I am yet to be furnished with all relevant information pertaining to these dams and their construction, I only get partial information from the media,” he said.

Scores of other locals who refused to be identified also admitted that they know little about the dams and they only rely on the media.

It has become crystal clear that the majority of the locals in Eldoret and North Rift at large have little knowledge about these two dams project.
