Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s move to endorse former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka is not good news for Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua.
Speaking during the anniversary ceremony of his late father Kioko Mbuvi at Mua hills in Machakos County on Saturday, Sonko said Mutua should not expect the support of leaders from the Ukambani region.
He urged Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu not to interfere with the Presidential race by declaring an interest in the seat in 2022.
“Not Sonko, not Mutua, not Ngilu but Kalonzo," Sonko said.
His sentiments were echoed by other leaders from various regions across the country including Kilome MP Thadeus Zambia and his Borabu counterpart Ben Momanyi.
“Kalonzo supported Raila in 2013 and 2017, and I don’t want to hear that Raila is running for the seat again," Momanyi said.
Mutua is among the politicians who have said repeatedly that they will be contesting for the presidency in the next polls.
The governor, who is awaiting the ruling of the Supreme Court, is banking on the support of several leaders from Ukambani to make his dream a reality.
The entry of both Mutua and Kalonzo into the 2022's presidential race will definitely divide the Kamba vote.
