Thirdway Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot on Thursday suffered another major blow after the Kisii County Assembly rejected his Punguza Mizigo Proposals.
The MCAs shot down the bill on accounts that it doesn’t reflect the needs of the people of Kenya. The new move makes Kisii the seventh Assembly to reject the bill as Aukot seeks to support to root for a referendum.
No single members endorsed the bill on Thursday after it was presented to the house for debate. The motion of the Bill was moved by Sensi Ward Rep Paul Angwenyi before it was rejected. The MCAs argued that the Proposals by the Former Presidential candidate were aimed at taking away all the gains they had made as a county over decades.
They said that the proposals are not only ill-timed but also ill-intended. The lawmakers said that it would amount to betrayal if they let the Bill see the light at the end of the day.
"Passing the bill will take away all the nine constituencies in Kisii county, leaving us with only nine Wards and majority of our women will go back home as housewives," he said, as quoted by Daily Nation.
Aukot now has a hard task ahead of him as the bill continues to face rejection. The politician is still confident that the remaining county assemblies will support the bill once it is presented to them.
