Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, who also doubles up as the leader of the majority in the Senate, has congratulated the Amani National Congress (ANC) candidate in the Kibra by-election, Eliud Owalo.
In a tweet on Friday after the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate Imran Okoth was declared the winner of the Kibra mini-poll, Murkomen said that Eliud Owalo, a former Raila Odinga aide, had waged an honourable and issue-based campaign.
He also congratulated ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi for leading Owalo's campaign.
"Congratulations to Eliud Owalo for a spirited fight and for your issue-based campaigns. Congratulations to my friend @MusaliaMudavadi for leading your campaigns honourably despite the violence and intimidation. Now the truth is out there, you know the friends to work with. All best!" Murkomen tweeted.
Owalo emerged a distant third behind Imran Okoth and the governing Jubilee candidate former footballer McDonald Mariga.
At the start of the campaigns, Eliud Owalo was touted by political commentators as capable of pulling off an upset in the ODM backyard.
He ran on a platform of change, promising to change the face of Kibra constituency if given the chance to be the area's member of parliament.
Residents trooped to the polling stations on Thursday to cast their ballots.
