Former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioner Dr Roselyn Akombe revealed on Sunday who she celebrated on Mashujaa Day.
Writing on Twitter, Dr Akombe said that she was celebrating those who paid the ultimate price in the 2017 general elections.
She mentioned Chris Musando as the person on top of the list of those she was celebrating.
Chris Musando was brutally murdered in the lead up to the general elections and his body dumped in a forest.
Akombe's revelation was in response to an adulatory tweet from a social media user called Khadija. who mentioned her as a hero.
"Thank you Khadija, just to add that the true heroines and heroes of the 2017 General Election, are those whose lives were sacrificed and shuttered for political expediency. Today, I celebrate my colleague #ChrisMsando...he paid the ultimate price, " the former IEBC commissioner wrote on Twitter.
Investigations that were launched into the cold-blood murder of Mr Musando have not revealed anything in the way of those who were behind the murder.
Speculation was rife that his killing was political in nature given the critically important role he was playing at the electoral body.
Before his killing, Mr Msando had assured the Kenyan public that all loopholes had been sealed to forestall the prospect of a doctored electoral outcome.
