Jonathan Moi, the eldest son of retired President Daniel Moi, lived a modest life and perhaps, humbleness could be description of him even in death.

Mr Moi died in April after living largely a private life at Eldana Ravine, not far from Kabimoi where his mother Lena was buried in 2004.

Contrary to what many rich people's families face after death of sole provider, Mr Moi's family is said to be transitioning well especially in administration of his wealth.

Documents accessed by Daily Nation reveal that Mr Moi did not have any written will by the time he died and that he never owed anyone money.

According to the documents, the family of Moi appointed his widow Sylvia as sole administrator of his wealth estimated Sh30 million. However, many properties he is believed to have acquired are not listed.

Baringo Senator Gideon Moi and his brother Philip Moi are listed as guarantors of the Jonathan's vast estate.

“Know all men by these presents that we Gideon Kipsielei Towett Moi and Philip Kipchirchir Moi are bound unto the Chief Justice and judges of Kenya in the sum of Sh30 million to be paid to the said Chief Justice or judges of Kenya for the time being for which payment well and truly be made.

"We bind ourselves, our respective heirs, executors and administrators, successors and assigns firmly by these presents,” the application to the court reads.

The documents also make no mention of other individuals who have previously claimed to be Jonathan’s children. Lawrence Kipchumba, Gerald Kipkosgei and Geoffrey Kipkurui have claimed to be Jonathan’s children.

Despite the three complaining of being sidelined before the death of their father, the matter seem to have been solved internally as the family of Mzee Moi would have preferred.

Jonathan was one of Kenya's most accomplished Safari rally driver. He's said to have distanced himself from his siblings when his father separated from their mother Lena in 1974.

In 2002, he tried his luck in Eldama Ravine parliamentary seat but lost to Musa Sirma. Since then, he retired to his Eldama Ravine home where he led a quiet life.
