President Uhuru Kenyatta left his audience in stitches at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) on Friday with a witty remark about goat blood.

Speaking to a Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC) forum of education stakeholders, the Head of State wondered why some parents were pushing their kids to take up medical courses at the university yet their kids were scared of goat blood, let alone human blood.

"Why are you as a parent forcing your child to become a doctor yet when they see the sight of goat blood they faint? (Kwanini wewe mzazi umlazimishe ati wewe utakuwa daktari na huyu mtoto hata akiona sight ya damu ya mbuzi anazirai)?'' asked the president.

President Uhuru made the remark in a bid to persuade parents to allow their children to pursue what they are passionate about.

He contended that it was wrong for parents and guardians to put undue pressure on children to pursue the so-called prestigious courses at the university.

The CBC, which is in the process of being rolled out, will place a lot of weight on the individual abilities of the students, a marked departure from the exam-oriented 8-4-4 system.

It's gradual roll-out has not been without controversy.

Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) Secretary-General Wilson Sossion strongly opposed it saying that it was 'bound to fail'.
