Constantine Wasonga who is the Secretary-General of Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) on Thursday pointed out that the decision to go on strike was reached after the government failed to implement the Collective Bargaining Agreement(CBA) which was signed on October 28, 2019.

Dr Wesonga issued a figure of Sh13.8 billion minus the pensions, the money which they owe the government and they have vowed not to return to the classes until they are paid.

"SRC, IPUCCF, the unions convened a meeting and in that meeting, we were being guided by the SRC technical committee on how to implement the CBA, and we calculated the master scales, increments and arrears for 2017/2021 CBA and the figure we got was Sh13.8 billion excluding pensions," he explained at a press conference in Nairobi, according to Kenyans.co.ke

The dons asserted that they will accept a payment of Sh8.8 billion for CBA 2017-2021 regarding the tough economic times Kenya is facing.

"It appears the government has diverted the money and that is why we are being treated to doublespeak by SRC and the Ministry of Education," said Dr Wasonga, as quoted by Daily Nation
