Back in 2015, the two politicians were not in talking terms after the former Prime Minister led a campaign against Waiguru in a Sh791 million National Youth Service (NYS) scandal and called for her to be laid off.

Waiguru was accused of embezzling funds during her time at the Ministry of Devolution.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), however cleared her of any wrong doing in 2016.

Following her clearance, Waiguru moved to court and sued Odinga for defamation.

She, however, withdrew the case in November 2018, stating that they had agreed to sort out their difference thanks to the handshake.

“We agreed to settle our differences outside the court in the spirit of the Handshake, and for the cohesion and reconciliation of the country,” she stated.

In an interview with Nation, Waiguru said the handshake between Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta played a big role in her decision to make peace with the ODM boss.

The political friendship between Waiguru and Odinga saw the former campaign for an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate in the Kibra by-election.

She also recently visited the former Premier at his office in Capitol Hill, proving that indeed they are in good terms despite their rocky past.
