The affected MPs are Babu Owino (Embakasi East), Moses Kuria (Gatundu South), Aisha Jumwa (Malindi) and Kimani Ngunjiri of Bahati.

Three of the lawmakers except Ngunjiri are facing different criminal charges.

Njungiri’s security was withdrawn after he was summoned by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)  for grilling over claims that Deputy President William Ruto’s had been blocked from accessing his official residence in Mombasa.

Babu Owino was arrested and charged over the shooting of DJ Evolve at the B Club last week. He has been remanded for seven more days.

On the other hand, Kuria has been accused of assaulting a woman at the Royal Media Services (RMS) offices in December.

Jumwa is facing charges over a fatal gun drama at an ODM meeting at the home of Reuben Katana in Ganda.

In a statement read by police spokesman Charles Owino, Mutyambai said that the government was no longer ready to protect leaders involved in crime

“It is the expectation of the service that VIPs who are accorded this privilege shall reciprocate by being law abiding citizens at all times,” said Owino.

The police boss said that there is no reason to protect leaders if they are going to be involved in a series of criminal activities when they are expected to lead by example.

“To avoid demeaning the very essence of which the police is mandated, the National Police Service shall not provide security to VIPs who are involved or suspected to be involved in crime until they are cleared by the courts.”
