Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura has praised Thirdway Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot following his win in the first round of his referendum push.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Thursday gave the former presidential aspirant a nod, allowing him to take his push to the county assemblies.
Mwaura on Saturday hailed Aukot's ability to martial 1.2 million signatures for the purpose, saying that his party has demonstrated itself as a union of intellectuals.
He said that the party's muscles with regards to the Punguza Mizigo push is proof that it could cause political tension to bigger parties in the future despite appearing small currently.
"Thirdway Alliance Party is a party of intellectuals. Ni kadogo lakini kana ideologies (it is small but full of ideologies)," he said.
The lawmaker made the remarks during an interview on Radio Jambo's Mazungumzo waziwazi, also attended by former Makadara MP Benson Mutura, political analyst Brian Weke, and hosted by Bramwel Mwololo.
He took shots at his party, lashing out at the Jubilee leadership for failing to convene a members' meeting which he said has reduced members to mere party followers.
"Jubilee hata haina members, wewe unajiita member sema namba yako. Chama hata watu hawakutani. (Jubilee doesn't have members. If you think you are then reveal your number. This is a party where members don't even meet)," he said in response to Mutura who had termed himself a strong party member.
This comes amid growing rivalry between forces allied to president Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto under their Kieleweke and Tangatanga groups.
