For the first time in as many weeks, Deputy President William Ruto accused President Uhuru Kenyatta of using the fight against corruption to block his aspirations albeit indirectly.
At Kilifi on Saturday, a furious Ruto dismissed claims that Sh21 billion had been misappropriated in the construction of Kimwarer and Arror dams, a sharp contradiction of DCI George Kinoti's finding, despite the latter having full confidence of the president.
Instead, Ruto insisted that the ongoing graft war is stage-managed to derail is political aspirations, adding that it was predetermined for political reasons.
"You can't fight corruption by stage-managing scandals and spreading propaganda against certain people. Corruption cannot be won through predetermined decision. What we are seeing is just pure politics," lamented Ruto.
Several miles away at Bomet, his close confidant Kipchumba Murkomen, dismissed Uhuru's handshake with Raila Odinga, adding that the president should openly say he's tired with Ruto for their team to craft the way forward.
At Kirinyaga on Tuesday, Uhuru insisted his fight against graft will not stop, daring Ruto's allies to table evidence against him if he has ever stolen any public resources. He also maintained his confidence in DPP Noordin Haji and DCI George Kinoti.
"We must win the war on corruption. The DCI and DPP are so far doing a great job. Those making noise in funerals should report me if they think I have stolen something. We cannot be cowed," he said.
Ruto's latest jibes on the graft war could further escalate tension within the ruling Jubilee Party which has been subjected to political storms lately. Ruto maintains that the war solely targets him and ODM leader Raila Odinga is the beneficiary.
