West Pokot Senator Samuel Poghisio now says that Kenyans are partly to blame for the increasing implication of politicians in scandals in the country.
Speaking on Wednesday, Poghisio said that there are high chances that some politicians have indeed been involved in some of the scandals that have been unearthed recently.
The lawmaker said that the same can be blamed on Kenyans who have demonstrated an alarming appetite for handouts from the political class during elections campaigns.
"Pia tuwalaumu wakenya. Wamewasukuma viongozi hadi sasa imebidi watafute mali (Kenyans are also to blame, they have pushed leaders to an extent that they are forced to begin collecting resources)," said the parliamentarian.
He was speaking on Radio Jambo's Mazungumzo Waziwazi show on Wednesday evening, where he added that politicians are most likely preparing themselves for the 2022 polls.
"Huenda wameanza kujitayarisha mambo ya 2022. Huenda hii ndio sababu sakata nyingi sasa zinawahusisha wanasiasa (it seems they are readying themselves for 2022, hence the increased implication of politicians in these scandals)," he added.
This comes at a time when the nation is grappling with the fake gold scandal pitting local dealers and the Dubai royal family, which has dragged in the names of President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition boss Raila Odinga.
