Politicians allied to the DP from both the Rift Valley region, his backyard, and other regions have maintained that Ruto is on track and that his presidency after the 2022 general elections is unstoppable.

However, according to Cherangany lawmaker Joshua Kuttuny, the DP is in for a shocker after the mishandling of maize farmers who supplied their produce to the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB).

Kutuny was quoted by the Standard saying that DP Ruto's silence on the maize saga will most likely cost and deny him the support of his own people, leaving him vulnerable.

The youthful Jubilee MP who has since been branded as a rebel further claimed that the DP was directly involved in the saga which involves the payment of billions of shillings meant for maize farmers to cartels.

"His people imported maize and sold to the board. He is responsible for all the woes farmers are undergoing," Kutuny claimed.

On his side, Emurrua Dikkir MP Johanna Ng'eno is of the opinion that the DP has made so many political enemies and might have it very hard overcoming their hurdles.

He faulted him for being disrespectful, adding that the leaders whom he has mistreated have since embarked on a scheme to isolate him.

"His (Ruto's) failure to respect other leaders has aided his isolation. If he had respect for others, many would have sympathized with him," Ng'eno was also quoted by the Standard.

He also faulted the DP for over depending on President Uhuru Kenyatta's Central Kenya backing as per their initial reported agreement.

According to Ng'eno, Ruto should have by now realized that Deputy Presidents in Kenya never succeed in ascending to the top seat.
