Speaking in Matungu in the company of other opposition lawmakers on Saturday, Murunga further bashed all leaders who are in support of the development.

He condemned opposition leader Raila Odinga who has since lauded the opposition lawmakers who passed the amendment on Thursday for backing the move.

Murunga said that Kenyans will now resort to demonstrations in his absence, despite having been in the front line in calling and leading such in the recent past.

"Raila can no longer lead the opposition and Kenyans will have to stand up and even go to streets to and show their displeasure," he was quoted by the Standard.

The former Premier was until in the recent past the most encrusted with coordinating protests, a character he has lost since his March 9 truce with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) chaired a Parliamentary Group meeting last Tuesday where the members were directed to back the proposal.

The party immediately officially declared support for the additional tax immediately after.

Most of the members, however, defied the directive, as was the case in the ruling President Uhuru Kenyatta-led Jubilee side, with most members opposing the attempt.

It was, however, controversially approved, before the President on Friday signed it into law.
