Opposition leader Raila Odinga has lost a number of political allies in his long political career.
However, the untimely demise of Gerald Otieno Kajwang in November 2014 was one that without any doubt left a notable political void in Raila’s heart and politics as a whole.
The former Mbita lawmaker was Raila's ally of his own kind, unique in how he showed allegiance to his party leader.
The manner in which Kajwang was always beside Raila in many platforms, the oratory skills with which he used to defend Raila are only but a few elements Raila is dearly missing from the late outspoken Homabay senator.
He was among the real founders of the Orange Democratic Party and was in Raila’s camp in the 2007 and 2013 general elections.
He could speak on behalf of Raila on several occasions, counterattack Raila’s critics and defend him on any accusations that were in the public domain.
Kajwang simply kept Raila politically relevant at all costs.
It is no doubt if Kajwang would be alive today, Raila would be more politically comfortable than he is now.
There are many leaders in Nyanza and across the country who are always supporting ‘baba’ but actually Nyanza region is yet to find a politician who can do the unexpected to stand with Raila Amollo Odinga the way the fearless Kajwang used to do.
