The trade union Secretary General, who has been in limelight for many years, has been supporting the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga.

For months, the move has put him at loggerheads with Deputy President William Ruto's supporters, with former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale leading the onslaught.

But at Bukwala SDA, Atwoli insisted that the people of Western region listens to him that any local politician, threatening to decampaign his critics.

Atwoli vowed to call for a huge meeting in Bukhungu stadium where he would endorse his preferred candidates ahead of 2022 polls.

"Luhyas are not divided. In 2016, over one million people came to Bukhungu where I had called for a meeting. They specifically came to listen to me," he said.

"This time, I'll read names of preferred candidate in every constituency. It will also be live. I will mention preferred candidates in every seat and those will be people Luhyas will elect," added Atwoli.

In 2016, Atwoli called for a meeting in Bukhungu stadium where Musalia Mudavadi was crowned as Luhya kingpin. He went ahead to endorse Raila Odinga.

Last week, Deputy President William Ruto said that he's ready to unite the Luhya community, calling on Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula to join his camp.
