Gone are the days when one would wait for more than 20 days to receive a calling letter from his or her university of choice, company or name them.

With the internet, information is made available at the time it is needed. However, the internet is like double-edged swords, that is when mishandled, can harm the user. Keep in mind it never forgets.

Because of the internet connection, almost all Kenyans are on social media, starting from kids to adults, and they are expressing their different views on wide matters, and with the help of the hashtag, one can easily go viral, or rather become an influencer.

It is therefore good that before the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) raises concerns about your posts, you ask yourself the following questions before posting on your Twiter, Facebook. Instagram, and name them:

1. Would I say it face to face to my targets?

People post with key audience target(s). Just before you press the post button, ask yourself if you will be comfortable saying the same words when your target audience is around.

2. Is my post within your company's social media policy?

Don't get fired for posting what your company does not advocate for. If you cannot openly talk about a given matter at your workplace then never talk about it on social media. Go through your employer's social media policy first.

3. Why?

It is just as simple as that, why do you want to take your thoughts on social media? If you get a genuine answer to this then post and even ask your friends to re-post, and if not, delete it.

4. Is this what my personal brand requires of me?

If you feel the post will spoil your brand, reputation, then the post is not necessary.

5. I am posting instead of taking action about it?

Most people would rather share pictures of a drowning mother than swing into actions and rescue her. It is said safety first, but that should not make one forget about humanity if you can take action, which also includes raising an alarm, then do it before posting
