City lawyer Donald Kipkorir now wants the state to charge State House secretary digital in the communications department Dennis Itumbi with treason.
Flying Squad officers arrested Dennis Itumbi on Wednesday at City Hall, Nairobi over links to Deputy President William Ruto 'murder' letter.
The letter caused confusions in government forcing DCI to summon four Cabinet Secretaries who were linked to the motive. The four led by Peter Munya have since dismissed the claims.
But on Twitter, Mr Kipkorir bashed Itumbi and another communication officer from DP William Ruto's office, Emmanuel Talam, accusing them of spreading fake news.
"Dennis Itumbi & his sidekick Emmanuel Talam & that Editor Of The Star are scum of the earth. They are Master Purveyors Of Fake News. They nearly destroyed the Country in 2017 thro’ highly inflammatory & incendiary Fake News against Baba. Itumbi should be charged with Treason," he said.
Presidential Uhuru Kenyatta asked DCI to investigate the alleged assassination plot. DCI invited the FBI to unearth the matter which had caused political tension.
Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot however, accused DCI of targeting Itumbi wrongly, arguing that the letter should be taken seriously.
"DCI is working so hard to discredit the very serious allegations on a plot to eliminate WSR. Do they want us to believe that it is on account of a fake letter that 4 CS's went to DCI to record statements ? Anyway..This too shall pass," he claimed.
Editor’s Note: An earlier version of this article erroneously referred to Mr Dennis Itumbi as a former State House official. Corrections have been made to reflect his current position of State House secretary digital in the communications department.
