Chaos erupted at a burial ceremony in Nyatike, Migori County, on Friday afternoon after a section rowdy youths attacked a section of mourners.
At the burial of a high school principal Joseph Onditi, area Member of Parliament Tom Odege was heckled by youths which later turned to a stampede.
According to Standard digital, the speeches were halted as bodyguards were forced to shoot in the air as a way of dealing with the armed rowdy youths.
It all started when a section of youths heckled Odenge when he was speaking.
The burial ceremony which was also attended by speaker of Migori county Assembly Boaz Okoth, county secretary Christopher Rusana and former area MP John Pesa among other dignitaries left some of the mourners injured.
Governor Okoth Obado and MP Tom Odege condemned the politicians who allegedly hired the goons to disrupt the funeral.
The Governor argued the residents not to elect such politicians.
“I want to ask our people to deal with leaders who thrive in hiring goons to disrupt public functions as a way of getting noticed. Such people should never be elected to any positions,” said the Migori Governor.
