The Harambee Starlets of Kenya have been bundled out of the 2020 Tokyo, Japan Olympics qualifiers after losing 1-0 to the Copper Queens of Zambia.
The only goal of the match was scored by Mweemba Lushomo in the second half at the 58th minute after Barbra Banda was fouled as she charged dangerously towards the Starlets' goal.
Kenya needed to beat the Copper Queens to continue their participation in the qualifiers, having drawn 2-2 at the Moi International Sports Centre on Friday, last week.
Zambia will now face either the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon or Ivory Coast in the final round of the qualifiers.
Only one team will be accorded the opportunity to fly the African flag in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
When the centre referee blew the final whistle, the Starlets massed together in a circle to say a prayer, a testament of their grace in the face of defeat.
Zambia unleashed three foreign-based players, Barbra Banda, Rachael Kundannanji and Misozi Zulu, an indication of the seriousness with which they were approaching the match against Kenya.
The news of the loss will come as a shock to football-loving Kenyans who came out to support them at the Kasarani stadium.
