Barely a day after jetting in from abroad, President Uhuru Kenyatta may have tough times in explaining high cost of living that has rocked the country.
For close to three hours, businesses along Kisii-Keroka highway came into standstill as Matatu operators waged anti-Uhuru protests over 16 per cent VAT implementation.
Interestingly, Kenyans living around the region joined Matatu operators in the protests thus causing the stalemate.
"We can't live in a country that borrows more than it can sustain. We are tired with this culture," said Dominic Matoke.
Another protestor, Linet Osoro added: "Let Uhuru deal with corruption before taxing us heavily. He either suspends it or we make things harder for him."
During the protests, 'Uhuru must go' slogans could be heard as motorists condemned the government.
At the moment, a litre of petrol is going at Sh130 from the initial Sh110 thus affecting other sectors of economy.
Until now, the Head of State has remained mum over the escalating quagmire in energy sector.
Normalcy is yet to return as many PSV operating in the larger Gusii region remain parked in various shopping centers.
