Locals said the man, Victor Nyakayo, abandoned his wife Maureen Nyanchera inside their house when the chief accompanied by Nyumba Kumi officials stormed the homestead to destroy illicit brew.

"Nyanchera is a notorious chang'aa brewer. The chief with Nyumba Kumi officials stormed her house to destroy illicit brew known as 'kangara' when her husband escaped through the window never to be seen," stated Enock Nyakundi.

Nyakundi said Nyumba Kumi officials tried to give Nyakoyo a chase in vain.

"Nyakoyo managed to go into hiding in a neighbouring coffee farm while his wife was apprehended for engaging in outlawed business," he noted.

The chief Ezekiel Monda said Nyakoyo will have to volunteer to police because his wife will not be released.

"He escaped but, we arrested his wife. He will have no option rather than surrendering to police. Illegal businesses must come to an end," he said.
