A Senator allied to the ruling Jubilee Party has admitted that the political outfit is facing serious problems which need to be solved before 2022.
Isaac Mwaura (Nominated Senator) said on Tuesday that the rift emanated after a section of MPs allied to the party from Central Kenya made a U-turn and reversed their support for Deputy President William Ruto's State House bid in 2022.
"There are serious problems in Jubilee, let us not lie to each other and Jubilee members are being told to choose between I don't know which teams," he said in a live interview with NTV.
Mwaura said unless the rifts are not sufficiently addressed, the party may suffer a hard break before the 2022 elections and may mark the end of one of Kenya's newest parties.
On Monday Jubilee cancelled a meeting that had been convened by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto at State House Nairobi on Tuesday in which the two were to speak to the ruling party's MPs on the way forward following their differences.
The rift started after some Central Kenya MPs said they would not back Ruto's 2022 State House bid although an arrangement between Uhuru and Ruto states that the commander in chief would rally Mt Kenya support for the former Eldoret North MP in 2022.
