Here are things that Somali women are not allowed to do.

1. Walking without hijabs Majority of Somali women are Muslims and as such they are required to wear hijabs and headscarves.These women are not allowed to expose their heads or necks and in many cases you will see them covering their heads.They also wear veils and long dresses to avoid exposing their flesh.

2. Riding on motorbikes

In some places like Garissa, Somali women are not encouraged to use motorbikes.Cases of some Somali women being beaten by men for using motorbikes have been reported.It is seen as a wrong thing for Somali women to use motorbikes.3. Wearing mini-skirtsIt is not encouraged among Somali community and women who do are seen as going against religious teachings.Cases of women being stripped for wearing mini-skirts in areas with rich Islam and Somali teachings have been reported.4. Shaking men’s hands

Married Somali women are not encouraged to shake hands with strangers.

These women can only shake hands with their close male relatives or husbands and not any men.In 2017, Isiolo women rep Rehema Dida Jaldesa shocked many hen she refused to shake President Uhuru Kenyatta’s hand.The MP instead of shaking Uhuru’s hand, she saluted him.
