Migori Governor Okoth Obado has remained largely alone in his ongoing murder case, with his fellow Luo Nyanza Governors Cyprian Awiti (Homabay), Cornel Rasanga (Siaya) and Anyang’ Nyong’o remaining silent on his woes.

Facing murder charges over the killing of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno, the county chief’s issue is as well being avoided by Nyanza’s most vocal persons like Suba North parliamentarian Millie Mabona and her Suna East counterpart Junet Mohammed.

One of the few leaders who have spoken is Homabay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga, who has instead worsened the situation by backing his looming impeachment by Migori Members of County Assembly (MCAs) and punishment over the murder.

"What more do we need to convince the public that the Governor is involved. His aides and a car linked to one of his aides has been traced to the scene of the crime.

''This should be grounds enough for MCAs in Migori to start impeachment proceedings," she said in a Wednesday morning Citizen Television Show.

This now emerges as a supremacy battle, since most of the region’s top leaders are eyeing the Luo Nyanza kingpin slot, and seem to have detected that Obado is likely to come out stronger should he overcome his current tribulations.

With this likely to propel him to the kingpin slot, they are better off on the opposing side, each doing it independently, in a bid to have his hands tied and expelled from his political seat or, if possible, jailed.

Judging by Obado’s rebellion against the region’s dominant Orange party on whose tickets most of the leaders are in office, they see this as payback time, and have left him to suffer for his behavior and opposition of the party’s attempts to defend the vacant Migori Senatorial seat.

Lastly, judging by the magnitude of the case, being a capital offence allegation, they seem to have decided to let it be handled constitutionally.

They fear that any political interruption could result to them being blamed for barring justice should he be acquitted, a situation that could cost them their political ambitions in the future.
