Uhuru, who is serving his second and final term, is expected to retire in 2022 as the Constitution demands a Head of State should serve only for a maximum of two consecutive 5-year terms.

However, Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli wants the Constitution amended to allow Uhuru to rule up to 2027.

Speaking during JKL Live on Citizen TV, Atwoli said the President needs to serve for five extra years to end corruption which has plagued Kenya since the independence.

"President Uhuru Kenyatta is now where we wanted him to be. Come 2022, if he will not have accomplished his mission of 'cleaning up' the country, we will go into a referendum to give him more years as president," he said.

The vocal trade unionist added: "Kenyans must learn to keep 'good' Presidents."

Atwoli further urged Uhuru not to back down on the on-going demolitions of illegal structures in Nairobi despite facing opposition from some politicians and businessmen.

"Nairobi is a capital city. We cannot allow Nairobi to be a city of slums, a city of matatus. Let the President carry on the demolitions. He should not worry that he has lost friends. He will gain others who are genuine and sincere," he stated.
