Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga has been described as a 'political genius' who outsmarted former President Daniel Moi before he dumped his political party Kanu.
Former Moi's powerful National Security Minister Julius Sunkuli has described Odinga as a person who sees the future, plans for it before anyone else around him can realize.
According to Sunkuli who enjoyed a close working relationship with Moi, Odinga politically survives by thinking beyond and outside the box.
In an interview with Sunday Nation, Sunkuli said Odinga is the strategist of politics, and it was due to his political skills that the independence party Kanu was dumped from leadership.
“Raila, unlike what some people think of him, is a master political strategist. He survives by always thinking ahead of everyone,” he said as quoted by Nation.
Sunkuli noted that Kanu would have made a big mistake when they welcomed Odinga into the party with a Secretary-General post.
According to him, the former Prime Minister utilized his chance as the party's Secretary-General to learn the party's secrets and when he left, the party could not recover, and until today, Kanu is still struggling.
“It was such a huge mistake that to date Kanu is yet to recover from. Raila came and familiarised himself with the party and when he walked out, he left with several friends who included long-term party loyalists. Only a master tactician can do that,” he said
