Bonchari Member of Parliament John Oroo Oyioka has found himself on the receiving end after he allegedly snubbed a funds drive meant to raise cash in aid of the construction of a tea buying centre.

Angry tea farmers from Miranga village in Bomariba on Saturday protested that the MP boycotted the funds drive despite the fact that he was invited as the chief guest.

They accused the lawmaker for giving them a raw deal after receiving overwhelming support during the August 8, 2017, polls.

"We sent an invitation card to the MP to preside over the fund drive in aid of the construction of Miranga tea buying. On Saturday the MP was nowhere to be seen with few local aspiring politicians showing up," said William Riang'a, a farmer.

Riang'a said the MP did not communicate to the fundraising committee and he also did not send a representative.

"Oyioka insulted us by snubbing the fundraiser. Come 2022 we will show him the door," noted another farmer.

The MP, however, said he had a parallel function at Ekerubo.

"I did not miss the Miranga fundraiser intentionally because I was committed. I will send my contribution later to help the farmers construct a tea buying centre where they will be selling their tea leaves," noted Oyioka.
