An anonymous man from Kisumu on Monday shocked radio listeners when he called Bulala community radio, and opened up on his business of selling donkey meat.
Speaking to the radio presenter, the unidentified caller noted that he has been conducting the business for quite sometime, but is now considering quitting.
The caller noted that in the company of two men from Uganda, they have been smuggling slaughtered donkeys from Uganda to Kenya through Lake Victoria.
He further divulged that after smuggling the donkey meat, it is ferried alongside fresh fish to different parts of Kisumu County, where it is purchased by the unsuspecting consumers.
“We have been doing this business. We supply donkeys and wild meat to Kisumu where meat is on high demand. It has been paying but now it’s risky,” said the man during the radio interview.
Asked why they did the business knowing it was hazardous to the humanity, the man said that the donkey meat wasn’t poisonous, adding that the cost of living had driven them into the business.
He urged meat consumers to be on the watch-out as the business is gaining popularity in the region.
“Just be careful on what you eat. I know two or three who are still in the business,” he added.
