The over 70 passengers were engulfed in fear after the jet failed to land due to bad weather in the city, forcing the pilot to turn around and head back to Nairobi.

But that was after the pilot made several rounds above Lake Victoria pondering his next move, as the passengers inside held their hearts in their hands in fear.

One of the passengers narrated how the plane spent time stranded in the air, after which the pilot decided to turn around and head to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

“As we approached Kisumu, the pilot announced we would be landing in five minutes. We started to get worried after ten minutes had passed without us landing," she told the Standard.

Stella Wanja, another passenger said that the rounds above the lake drove fear into the passengers who recalled the recent Ethiopian plane crash that claimed over 150 lives.

“It flew around the airport once and then began circling above Lake Victoria. Everybody was calm but I could see they were scared," said Wanja.

The group on Wednesday safely landed in Kisumu and the company had as well come out to apologise for the terrifying incident.
