Senatorial hopeful in the concluded Migori by-election Eddy Oketch could finally realize his dream in the approaching 2022 general polls.
The youthful leader has remained humble and calm at a time when he appears wounded and expected to be firing salvos towards all directions, a characteristic that can only bring in more backers.
He has repeatedly noted that he has nothing against his opposers, especially members of the rival Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party who have repeatedly bashed him and laughed him off.
He has also cleverly left the name of opposition leader Raila Odinga out of his issues with the ODM brigade, well aware that an encounter with the Premier could dim his political ambitions.
This is because Raila remains the ultimate political decision maker in the region, and rubbing him the wrong way can throw one into permanent political Siberia.
Also, his move to accept defeat only hours to the declaration of former Cabinet Minister Ochillo Ayacko as the Senator-elect was a well thought decision that he will greatly rip from.
It brought him out as a considerate person who understands that he does not have to hold a position to serve his people and also not willing to subject to the people to another round of political wrangles for self-gain.
Should he have opposed the results, then he would have opened another battlefield with the ODM brigade in courts and probably a re-run of the election.
The ability to garner over 40 percent of votes on an ODM zone while riding on a less known Federal Party of Kenya (FPK) was another show of might and a demonstration of an easier job in 2022.
Further, if what Oketch is saying that he singlehandedly raised his own funds for the campaigns without the backing of any political is true, then he might have made his way into the hearts of the people.
This is because the majority now consider him a man of his own means and who will not prey on public coffers, but instead depend on his own and ensure that public funds are channeled towards the intended purpose.
Finally, he is set to rip handsomely from his resilience and persistence, considering that he will be vying for the third time in a row should he take a shot at the seat in 2022.
And since he will have shown his unshaken interest in the seat, he might be finally given a chance as the people closely watch whether he really is capable to lead them in that capacity.
