For the rural folks who either have limited access to daily newspapers or simply cannot afford them, the review of the same, mostly on vernacular radio stations where many of them tune in, can be a good bait if the breakfast presenter(s) leave(s) the listener feeling like they had actually read the newspaper.
On Kikuyu morning radio you will, therefore, find various households shuffle from one Kikuyu radio station to the next at 6.30 am when these newspaper reviews usually take place as they seek to listen to the station with the best of 'kumuramura magatheti' (perusing newspapers).
Here, we focus on how these three sets of Kikuyu radio stations breakfast presenters compare when it comes to newspaper review in the order of decreasing preference among listeners.
1. Gatonye Wa Mbugua
He hosts the Kameme FM breakfast show 'Arahuka' alongside comedian Mzee Kiengei. However, when it comes to doing a newspaper review, he does it single-handedly.
There are no chitchats here as Gatonye takes you to a marathon review of the big stories carried by the leading daily press.
Keen listeners will tell you Gatonye's newspaper review is not only comprehensively informative, but it also leaves you feeling like he was reading a Kikuyu newspaper.
2. Jeff Kuria/Nyoxx Wa Katta/Muhia Wa Maina
The three Inooro FM presenters are behind the station's newspaper review dubbed 'Kumuramura Magatheti'.
Muhia Wa Maina being a news presenter, is perhaps the only one who infuses an element of seriousness required in this exercise as Jeff though also good, seems to be dragged in a street-talk kind of conversation by the chatty Nyoxx.
3. Njogu Wa Njoroge
Before he decamped to Radio Africa's Gukena FM from Kameme FM in the run-up to 2017 general election, Njogu was perhaps the best Kikuyu newspaper reviewer on the radio, but not anymore.
Nowadays, he is shallow in this exercise and it takes him less than 10 minutes to be done on all the daily papers.
Nonetheless, don't blame it on him, this shallowness is perhaps in keeping up with the station's norm of little talk, more music!
