Dismas Agose is the new deputy Pope of the Legio Mariae religious sect, it has been confirmed.
This follows his nomination to replace the outgoing Reverend Lawrence Ochieng' by the sect 'Pope' Romanus Ongombe.
Confirming the same on Wednesday, Provincial Church Investigator in East Africa Elias Gunga said the move was arrived at after suspicions of fund misappropriation at the church.
Gunga said the decision was made after deep consultations with the sect's officials, adding that it cannot be changed or challenged as the Pope's decision is final.
He said the church was grappling with cases of top officials mismanaging, swindling and "running the church as their own personal investments" under Ochieng'.
Gunga claimed that the officials have been swindling the church and running it as their "own personal investments," reports the Citizen Digital.
The funds are part of allocations set aside to support various church projects.
Gunga noted that the changes are aimed at improving the church's management.
He urged the faithful to remain supportive of the denomination.
The Legio Mariae is one of the most popular indigenous sects in Western Kenya and specifically Luo Nyanza.
It is a product of the larger Roman Catholic denomination.
