Upon arriving on the police station, the 14 AP officers forcefully demanded for the keys from the cell's sentry no. 107120 Police Constable James maina at gun point.

The officer, out of fear of being shot, handed over the keys to the AP officers who  opened the male cells and released one prisoner of No. 2005007950 Corporal Richard Githaka Karanja of their RDU command.

The statement further indicated that there were eleven prisoners in the male cells, but none of them escaped as the RDU officers only rescued their own before leaving.

The incident is said to have happened in full glare of the Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD).

At the time of going to press, normalcy has been restored in the town with senior officers within the Police force, the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and IPOA flocking the police station to assess the situation.
